Power of Words
Dear ACTS Friend,
Understanding the incredible power of words Benjamin Franklin stated, “Give me twenty-six lead soldiers and I will conquer the world.” Carl Marx, the father of communism, said the same thing. The lead soldiers applied to the twenty-six letters of the alphabet on a printing press.
Think, too, of the mighty power of God’s Word.
Whether words are spoken, written, printed, or sent via e-mail and the internet, they still have mighty power to influence people for good or evil—to deceive or to reveal truth. With God’s blessing words have the power to change and transform people’s lives forever.
For example following are just a few of the many responses ACTS receives from the written word via the internet and e-mail:
Caleb writes: “Many of your Daily Encounters have allowed me to show broken folks the love of our Savior… I was once broken as well—alcoholism and drug addiction were Satan’s way to try to destroy me. I've been on the Daily Encounter mailing list for over 5 years and God has used these to repair the broken man I had become. Thanks to the love of our Savior I am today a new man.”
From Russia for Hungary: Andrea asks: “I am a Hungarian Methodist woman currently living in Moscow, Russia. The United Methodist Church in Hungary is quite small with a couple of thousand members. We have a bi-monthly church magazine, Metodista (www.metodista.hu) for which I have been asked to translate articles on a regular basis. A lot of people in Hungary don't speak English thus great internet resources, such as yours, are out of their reach. I would really like to translate some of your articles [for our magazine].” Naturally I gave our permission.
From Portugal: Bertina writes: “I am a Christian psychologist and the director of the Christian magazine for women in Portugal, Mulher Criativa. We have received your permission to publish some of your articles in this magazine, a blessing for our readers. My husband, A.T., is a pastor and is starting a Christian website for men, Homem Hoje (Man Today). It will be the first one in Portugal. We are writing to request your permission to translate and edit some of your articles or devotionals for this website.”
From Spain: Marita writes, “I am Swedish, involved in church planting work in Mallorca, Spain. Together with my husband I want to express my gratitude for all the blessings from the Lord that I have received because of Daily Encounter. Sometimes we have felt so lonely and worn out, but a word has reached us in time through the e-mailbox.”
From J.R.T. in the Philippines: “I have been a subscriber to Daily Encounter for the past three-four years and your service has inspired and motivated me to continue to be guided and make choices in my life in accordance with the Word of God. Email is a beautiful way to communicate the Word of God for people like me …. Your service is invaluable in that I am being reminded of God’s laws as recorded in the Bible. What I find so wonderful is you are able to relate it to everyday living so it is so much easier to understand and absorb.”
Friends, every month visitors to our websites and readers of Daily and Weekend Encounter are coming from 190 countries and/or territories but the greatest news is that every day we are receiving salvation and re-commitment to Jesus Christ responses—well over 2000 to date this year.
Daily Encounter (now going to 311,000+ worldwide subscribers every weekday) applies the Word of God and the Christian message and gospel to the everyday issues of life, and directs readers to our website for further helps and clear gospel messages.
While the gospel is free and Daily and Weekend Encounter are sent without charge, it takes considerable funds to cover our publishing and operating expenses including the following: technical support, advertising to reach non-Christians, computer and office equipment, salaries, overhead expenses, and for the server company we use to host our gospel and follow-up websites and to send out Daily Encounter every weekday and Weekend Encounter every weekend (sending out over 6.2 million Encounters every month).
As previously noted, because of the economic crunch here in the U.S., we have understandably lost quite a few supporters, thus your help this month is a very pressing need and, as always, is greatly appreciated. It is the support of God’s people that makes all of the ACTS gospel ministries possible.
As you stand with us in prayer and sacrificial financial support may God richly bless and reward you in his own abundant way.
Gratefully in Christ,
Terry
