Man’s Best Friend

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”1

We often associate the phrase, “Man’s Best Friend” to dogs. Anyone that has had the privilege of owning a dog can understand why. For the most part, dogs are loyal, forgiving, and very loving. They crave the attention of their human friend and desire being near them more than anything. When you’ve had a bad day and just want to be left alone, that playful pup will lovingly invade your space and remind you that you are not alone, your “best friend” is here for you.

Of course, if you are not an ‘animal lover’, it is probably difficult to understand the relationship between a human and their canine. Though, by the description of said relationship, you may wonder if you have any human relationships that match. As humans we tend to be loyal, forgiving, or loving; sometimes we can even be all three at the same time! But, our loyalties fail, and many days we aren’t loving toward others, and unconditional forgiveness, well, that doesn’t come easy to most. There is one, however, who fits this description perfectly! Someone who loves us unconditionally, to the point of death (John 15:13), and who is faithful to forgive when we confess our wrongs (1 John 1:9). Jesus is the best friend we could ever have!

Though our furry friends may have the “cute and cuddly'' factor, Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords is Almighty, Faithful, and True. He died for our sins to grant us eternal salvation without asking anything in return. How can we not give him our love and adoration? Jesus desires for us to be near Him and spend time with Him. His love for you and me is great and His faithfulness is unwavering. Open your heart to Jesus today and allow him to be your best friend!

Suggested Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, you are so Great and so Mighty, yet you desire to be my best friend. Thank you for giving your life and dying for my sins so that I might have a way to be with you one day. Thank you for your mercy and faithfulness toward me. Lord, you are my very best friend! Gratefully, In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. John 15:13.
