Jerusalem: City of God—Alive and Exciting!
Dear People Power for Jesus Partner,
Last year Joy and I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Israel. To walk where Jesus walked; to sail across the Sea of Galilee where Jesus and his disciples crossed; to enter the gates of Jerusalem and visit the Holy City and say a prayer at the wall of the ancient Temple where Jesus taught and also challenged the religious Pharisees; to be on the Mount of Olives and walk down through the Garden of Gethsemane to the place of the skull where Jesus was crucified; and then enter the tomb where Jesus lay dead for three days, and upon exiting read the sign, “He is not here, he is risen,” made God’s Word, the Bible, and his message of salvation leap right off the pages of history.
All of this, plus visiting many ancient Biblical sites including overlooking the city of Bethlehem where Jesus was born, was a life-changing experience.
Perhaps even more exciting was to visit the Temple Institute in Jerusalem—a vivid reminder of events yet, or even about, to come—and learn firsthand that the Jews are right now planning on building the third temple. In fact, they are currently training priests to lead the worship in this temple, and are making the needed instruments for the worship services.
What, then, is the significance of this new temple?
The building of the third temple is profoundly significant because it has to be in place for the Antichrist who, half-way through the tribulation, will enter it and desecrate it by setting himself up as God in it.1 The fact that right now the Jews are planning on building the new temple is a profound reminder, and a serious warning for all mankind, that the setting of the stage for the coming Antichrist is accelerating and could be just around the corner.
This is also a vivid reminder that the setting of the stage for Christ's return is also accelerating and could be much closer than we think. Remember, when we least expect it, Christ will return.2 Remember, too, that Jesus said "when the gospel is preached [proclaimed] in all the world, then would the end come."3 And today, with all the modern God-given means of communication, the gospel is speeding to the ends of the earth as never before in all of human history.
Thus the need for reaching people across the street and around the world with the gospel is more urgent than ever for without Christ people are lost—eternally. And with all the incredible God-given means of communication, it has never been easier for Christians to become actively involved in the greatest quest known to mankind—the quest of helping to win the lost to Jesus. And People Power for Jesus makes it incredibly simple and practical to do this.
Furthermore, I believe that God has given today's modern means of communication to his people primarily to communicate the gospel
to the ends of the earth in preparation for Christ's return. So let the Church and every Christian do everything in our power to use these means to reach our neighbors, our communities, our friends, our loved ones, and people all around the world with the saving gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ—the only hope of our sin-sick world.
People Power is without question a powerful means for achieving this goal and effectively communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ... As Richard Halverson pointed out "People Power" is a mighty force.
