Is America Losing Its Way?
Dear ACTS People Power for Jesus Partner,
Rarely do I quote movie stars but today I would like to quote six-time world middleweight karate champion and action film star, Chuck Norris.
"America," Norris says, "seems to have lost its way. As a people, we seem more divided than ever before. Switch on the television and it's clear we've lost our moral compass. Our economy, once celebrated as a guarantor of freedom and prosperity, now seems corrupted by greed, materialism, and uncertainty...."
Sadly, it's not only America that is losing its way. Not so long ago many of the great spiritual awakenings and missionary movements were coming out of Great Britain. But today, according to the TimesOnline, "Church attendance in Britain is declining so fast that the number of regular churchgoers will be fewer than those attending mosques within a generation." Tragically, the U.S. seems to be being rapidly pushed in the same direction—especially with our current political leadership claiming that the U.S. is no longer a Christian nation.
The Bible warns that in the last days prior to the Lord's return there would be a falling away (apostasy) within the church. The Apostle Paul wrote: "concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.... Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first" (2 Thessalonians 2:1, 3, NKJV).
Mark Hitchcock wrote in his book, Seven Signs of the End Times: "It doesn't take much effort to see that we live in days of surging apostasy [falling away] ... More and more churches today are awash in a watered-down, doctrine-less, soft-pedaling, anything-goes, pop psychology, don't-offend-anybody, entertainment-oriented, permissive quagmire" (P. 82).
Included in this falling away [apostasy] is the fact that even some professing Christians and ordained ministers today are accepting alternate lifestyle (gay marriage and the like) behaviors that would never be condoned a generation ago—and are never condoned in the Bible.
Furthermore, with all the natural disasters of recent days: destructive hurricanes, massive earthquakes, and the bizarre volcano eruption in Iceland disrupting airline travel for thousands of tourists worldwide—all seem to add to the sense that the Lord's return is getting nearer all the time. Jesus himself said about the days preceding his return, "There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven" (Luke 21: 11, NIV).
With all the above happenings and the never ending cases of murder, rape, evil of all sorts, and the ongoing attacks of radical Muslim terrorists, there is an ever increasing urgent need to spread the gospel throughout the world—while the doors are still so wide open to be able to do this especially via the means of the electronic media.
To this task ACTS International is totally committed. We continually thank God for the wonderful opportunity and privilege to be able to do this in this day of a communications revolution. Every day from around the world we are seeing salvation and re-commitment to Jesus Christ responses.
But we are just one small organization, but as hundreds more get involved, multiplied thousands more can be reached with the gospel. By way of interest 2,326 people have now joined with us in the People Power for Jesus movement.
And as Richard Halverson said, "People Power is a mighty force." Especially today with untold millions using e-mail, the Internet, Facebook, Twitter and the various facets of the electronic media revolution—People Power is without doubt one of the greatest ways ever to reach people around the world with the gospel.
