Exciting Visit to Israel
Dear People Power for Jesus Partners,
In March I was given a gift of a tour to Egypt (for four days) and Israel (for ten days) ... Joy, of course, was on the tour too. The tour was led by Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel. What a wonderful experience this proved to be.
Right at the beginning at the Los Angeles airport I asked an airport worker where to find the terminal for EL AL Israel Airlines. He said, "You're going to the Promised Land, hey!"
"Yes, Sir," I said, "sure am."
In Egypt, among seeing other fascinating places, visiting the pyramids was mind-boggling. How these massive stones were cut, transported and erected into these ancient massive structures
was absolutely amazing way back in 3-4,000 years BC. "Blew my mind" as the saying goes.
Visiting Israel was a never-to-be forgotten experience—a country that has been desolate and out of existence for some 2,000 years, until 1948 when the nation was re-born. We were at the remains of the ancient temple and saw piles of massive stones that were thrown down by the Roman soldiers when they destroyed the temple in AD 70—as predicted by Jesus. We also visited the Wailing Wall, a part of the ancient Jewish temple, and many other fascinating places—including Joppa where Jonah ran from God and was swallowed by a whale (big fish).
But being where Jesus and the disciples were was truly a life-changing experience. Talk about making the Bible come alive! We visited the Garden of Gethsemane, the place of the skull close to where Jesus was crucified, and entered the empty tomb where there was a sign, "He is not here. He is Risen!" He is risen indeed!
Another place in Jerusalem that was fascinating was visiting the Temple Institute and listening to the lecture about how, right now, the Jews are getting ready for building the third temple.
The instruments needed for temple worship are being made right now; priests are currently being trained to minister in the new temple; and plans are being drawn up to build this wonderful structure.
We know that the temple has to be in place for the entry of the Antichrist because in the mid-seven-year-tribulation the Antichrist will break his peace agreement with Israel and enter and desecrate the temple by setting himself up as God. This is all to happen at the time of Christ's second coming.
While nobody, but God, knows the exact day and hour of Christ's second coming, the Bible and Jesus have indicated what some of the signs would be regarding the nearness of Jesus' return. One major sign is that the Jews have to be back in ancient Israel. This began in 1948 and what they have done with the land is amazing. So much of the desert is again "blossoming as the rose." Another clear sign is the rebuilding of the Temple (which could be either before or immediately following the rapture of the Church)—and this is being prepared for right now! These things, along with ever increasing wars, earthquakes and natural disasters, all seem to indicate that the setting of the stage for Christ's return is accelerating.
This is extremely encouraging and exciting—at least for all of God's people—for Jesus promised he would come again to take to himself all of his people, and what a glorious day this will be. Even so come Lord Jesus.
But how tragic for all those who have never accepted Jesus as their Savior. This is all the more urgent reason why we need to reach as many people as possible with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ while the doors are still so wide open for the proclamation of God's Word.
However, around the world in so many places it is forbidden to preach the gospel and for many who receive Christ they are just as likely to have their head cut off. Praise God that in so many places the Internet and e-mail are reaching over these walls and many are able to be reached with the message of Jesus Christ—the only hope of our sin-sick world.
