The Bible

As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.1

The Bible gives an accurate account of God's character, actions, and purposes. Together, the Old and New Testaments teach us that the problem of man is sin, and the only remedy is faith in the Son of God: Jesus Christ.

Through his Word, God has entrusted us with the knowledge of who he is, what he is doing, and how the future of humanity will unfold. God gave us the Bible to guide us into a deeper relationship with Him and to enable us to serve as His ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). In this position, we are called to follow the example of Christ in glorifying God (Matthew 5:16): our Savior did not focus on Himself, but on the Father, whose plan is to reach the whole world with His saving grace.

The will of God includes different tasks that His children are to perform, according to the way He has arranged for each one (Romans 12:4-6). Pondering Bible principles and examples will help us discern what He has in mind for us.

What place does the Bible, this wonderful book, have in determining the course of your life? Take time today and every day to listen to the Lord, benefit from His wisdom, and discern what He is saying to you personally.

Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that through Your Word You have entrusted us with the knowledge of who You are. Thank you that you have given us the Bible to guide us into a deeper relationship with you and to enable us to serve as ambassadors. Lord, help me to appreciate the privilege I have of being able to have Your Word with instructions directly from Your heart to guide my life according to Your will. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
