Perfection Is Coming

But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.1

In a world filled with imperfection, glimpses of “perfect” are always welcome! When your home is calm, the weather is just the way you like it and all your work is caught up, life may feel perfect. Perfect is different for everyone. For example, my youngest child considers perfection to be when everyone is home and having dinner together. She will count the days till her brother is home from university on a break because that means that, finally, every chair will be filled at the dining table and she eagerly sets that extra place for him. Perfection.

In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul reminded the church at Corinth how perfect their lives were. First, in verse 4, he reminds them that they have been given GRACE in Christ Jesus — which God knew we would need on a daily basis! Then he continues to remind them how their lives have been ENRICHED in EVERY WAY! (v.5) And in verse 7 Paul urges them to remember that they have been blessed with spiritual gifts — used to serve others, in the name of Jesus, as they eagerly await His return. And finally the promise that Christ would be with them to help them stand firm to the end! (v.8) Sounds like a pretty perfect life, right?

These promises hold true for us still today! While we await Christ to return, we may feel as though there is an empty seat at our heart’s table. Things may be going well for you, but something is not quite right; not quite perfect. In these times, we can remember the words Paul shared, and if we are indeed children of the Most High, then His Grace is ours! How has your life been enriched by your Heavenly Father? Are you using the gifts God has blessed you with to be a testimony of His Love? Are you eagerly awaiting His return? My friend, set an extra place at your table because Perfection is coming!

Suggested Prayer: Lord, I know Your Word is true and You will return. That moment will be perfect! Thank you for the grace to continue to live for you in the best way I can. Thank you for the countless ways you have enriched my life. Allow my testimony to reflect you in every way. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
