Love For A Lifetime

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.1

Love. The word alone makes you feel all warm inside. The Oxford Dictionary defines love as: an intense feeling of deep affection; to feel deep affection for (someone). Or to have a great interest and pleasure in something; to like or enjoy very much. Maybe you can recall the first time you felt “love”. A child might say it was when they met their first pet — many adults may say that too! Maybe it was a high school sweetheart — or when you met “the one”. Maybe you have felt love over and over again! Whatever the case may be, do you still feel that intense feeling of deep affection? Do you still have that great interest and pleasure in the one you love?

My son, in his second year of Bible college, called me recently to say, “Mom, I’ve met someone!” The joy in his voice was unmistakable as he proceeded to tell me all about her. He’s experiencing love for, maybe, the first time and the feeling for him is incomparable. As I lift him, and his newfound love, to the Lord in prayer, I wonder if this is the woman he will spend the rest of his life with, and if it is, I ask the Lord to give them both this feeling of love for their lifetime. You may be thinking that this is improbable thinking because love doesn’t last forever — does it?

God’s Love is steadfast and unmovable, and His Word tells us that it endures FOREVER! To me, this means that if God is at the center of my relationship, of my marriage, then that Love is for a lifetime. It means that no matter what hardships or trials may come, God’s Love, in my relationship, will endure. If we become passionate for the Lord, that passion will spill into our marriage. If you are not married, the same goes for your relationships and your friendships. Allow God’s Love be the Love that fills your life and find pleasure in that Love — for a lifetime!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for your Love toward us. I thank you for the beautiful way your Love can bring two people together and how it was all part of your plan for us to feel and to give love. For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.2 In Jesus’ name, Amen.
