Jesus Christ – Our Safe Resting Place
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yolk upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.1
We have all experienced temptations, trials, and suffering. No one is immune to hard times, but believers have the power of the Holy Spirit to endure struggles. Psalm 46:10 reminds us to be still and know that He is God.
What a sobering experience it is to know that as children of God, we have a direct line of communication to Him, even in the midst of difficulties! We do not have to respond with anger, depression, or sadness. Nor do we have to fix everything with our own strength. Of course, we will continue to be tempted by the flesh, but as we stop struggling, we will learn to trust God more and more each day.
The truth is that difficulties not only transform our character, but also reveal it. One of the most common responses to difficult times is anger. In times of frustration, we run the risk of making impulsive decisions that could have repercussions for the rest of our lives. But instead of getting carried away by emotion, we should stay calm and trust the One who controls every aspect of our lives.
In this world, problems will not disappear (John 16:33). But when storms come, have confidence that the Lord will be with you. Only in Him can we truly rest.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, let me be still and acknowledge that You are God. Lord, help me to run to You, not only in times of difficulty, but at all times. In this world there will always be problems, but I have the confidence that You, my beloved Father, will always be with me. Thank you, in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
