The Storms of Life
When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. News of this spread through all that region.1
The disciples experienced many "peak moments" during their time with Jesus. They witnessed amazing miracles, such as when he revived the daughter of the ruler of the synagogue, healed the sight of two men, restored speech to the mute, and freed a demon-possessed man. However, when they saw the Lord walking on water, the disciples felt a deep fear (Matthew 14:24-26).
The same can happen to us in times of adversity. We can forget how He has answered our prayers in the past and how He has guided us through His Holy Spirit.
Reading the Bible and keeping a written record of the ways God has acted in our lives is vital. It serves as a map to show us where we have been and how He has helped us along the way. Even though the trial you are going through right now may be different, you can pause to remember the unchanging nature of the Lord over the years.
As Christians, we have an enemy who wants to divert our focus from God. Let us spend time in the Word and keep a record of what the Lord has done in our lives. Doing so will help us remember His provision and protection.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes the storms in my life cloud my vision and I only see the negative. I thank You that through the stories in the Bible You remind me that You are the same God as always. Thank You that through my personal story You remind me that You have helped me in my most painful moments and have always been faithful. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
