Heaven: What Will It Be Like and Who Will Be There
Page Two
Furthermore, in heaven there will be no more death; no more sorrow; no more crying; no more pain; no more sun or moon, no abominations,10 and no more hunger, thirst or heat.11 In other words there will be no more sickness, sadness, crying, death nor loss of loved ones or friends, and no more suffering of any kind, but eternal peace, satisfaction and joy. As King David wrote: "In Your [God's] presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."12
Most important of all is that a temple will no longer be needed "because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb [Jesus] are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp."13 In other words, the glory of God will be the very center of heaven for all existence will radiate from and revolve around him.14
Who Will Be in Heaven?
As Jesus said, he was going to prepare a place in heaven for all who believe in him.15 That is, all who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he died on the cross to pay the penalty for all our sins, and in doing so, grants forgiveness and the gift of eternal life to all who accept him as their personal Lord and Savior. There are no other grounds for entering heaven. As Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."16
Dear God, thank you for the promise in
your Word, the Bible, that there is a heaven.
God's Word also says, "But to all who believed him [Jesus] and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God."17 And again, "He who has the Son [Jesus] has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God."18
The important thing is that you know that have received God's forgiveness and his gift of eternal life by having accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior—and thereby be absolutely certain that you will be with God in heaven forever.
Suggested prayer: "Dear God, thank you for the promise in your Word, the Bible, that there is a heaven. Thank you, too, that right now Jesus is preparing a place there for all who believe in him, and have accepted your forgiveness. Please help me to be absolutely certain that I will go to heaven when my life on earth is over—or should you return for your true followers before I die. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus' name, amen."
