Give all your worries
and cares to God, for he cares about you.1
Worry is a debilitating
state of mind that, if left unaddressed, can destroy our joy, peace, and
healthy sense of God's presence.
It is an attack on God's
character, since underlying most of our concerns is the idea that He will
somehow fail to keep His promises.
By choosing to trust God
to take care of the circumstances that generate our anxiety and by focusing on
fulfilling the work the Lord sets before us, we can feel contentment and
stability.
It is impossible to
enjoy the pleasure of the presence of God and be concerned at the same time. Our
anxieties force us to focus on what is wrong instead of focusing on what is
right. When we learn to delight in the Lord, to focus our attention on Him, we
can reverse the effects of worry. The person who delights in the Lord puts
Christ at the center of his thoughts and actions and directs his attention to
the Lord to meet his deepest needs and desires. Delighting in the Lord is a
constant heart-eye look at the wonders of God.
Suggested Prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, I surrender all anxiety and worry to you. I know that this is
easier said than done, but I trust that You take care of me and are aware of
every area of my life. Beloved Father, I choose to trust in You every day. I
choose to delight in You, knowing that You will grant the desires of my heart
according to Your will. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
