Jesus is Enough

I have often said to myself, "Jesus is enough"! This could be when I start to worry, when I feel overwhelmed, or when I start feeling unworthy. However, many may ask, "Enough for what"? Let's take a moment to look at a few examples:

Jesus is enough to save me. He came to do what I couldn't. His perfect sacrifice was required in order for me to be forgiven. Hebrews 10:14 says, "For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy." There is nothing we can add to Christ's sacrifice. His work on the cross was complete. God does not make exceptions, so His gift is available to ALL who believe. Acts 15:11 says, "We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus." Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, through which we can come to the Father.

Jesus' strength is enough. Paul suffered with a "thorn in his flesh", which he prayed three times for the Lord to take away. But God's response was, "My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you."1 There have been several times in my life where I cried out to God because I could not carry the load alone, and each time he has been faithful in helping me walk through even the darkest moments. Jesus has promised to never leave or forsake us, so we can trust that he will carry us when we are weak.

Jesus is enough to provide for us. It is easy to start doubting God's provision when we see our finances dwindling, lose our jobs, have unexpected medical expenses, etc. However, I am reminded of Jesus' words in Matthew 6:25-31 where he says, "Don't worry about everyday life... Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are?...And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?" Jesus is more than able to supply all of our needs!

In John 14, we see Jesus sitting with his disciples, and Philip tells him (v.8), "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." I LOVE how Jesus responds, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father." Philip thought he needed one more sign, but the reality is that he had all he needed right in front of him! The same is true for us. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We simply need to believe! Jesus is enough.

Suggested prayer: Lord, please forgive my unbelief. Those times when I have doubted or questioned who You are. You are my Savior, my Strength, my provider... YOU are all I need! Thank you for saving me and always being with me. In Jesus' name, amen.
