He made their hearts, so
he understands everything they do.1
Sometimes, when people
think of God, they might think of a powerful and ruthless king who doesn’t care
about anyone but himself. Although God is powerful, He is not ruthless. He is
actually the exact opposite of a ruthless person; He is merciful, He is
gentle, He is kind, and He is compassionate. One way we can think of God is as
a professional potter, or a ceramic artist to be more precise. A ceramic artist
is someone who makes pottery for a living. Ceramic artists create one-of-a-kind
pieces of art (usually out of clay), and they put much thought and effort into
their creation. After they have completed their creation, there is a great
sense of satisfaction and joy as they see all the intricate details in their masterpiece.
God is the ceramic artist,
and we are his clay because He carefully shapes our hearts and bodies just how
He wants them. He is the creator of all things, and in his sight, it is all
beautiful. We are His special, one-of-a-kind art pieces. We are fearfully and
wonderfully made as unique masterpieces (Psalm 139:14). He made every part of
us, and when he sees us, he smiles and makes His face shine upon us (Numbers
6:25). Even when we feel like we are a mess, nothing is going right, and we
feel like no one understands, He understands completely. He is the One to go to
whenever we need someone to listen to us thoroughly and to understand, while
also showing love and compassion.
Suggested prayer: God, I
thank you for always understanding me when no one else does. Even when I don’t
know how to explain how I’m feeling, you still understand! Thank you for
crafting me together so carefully and beautifully. Please, help me to see things
just as you see them. Open my eyes to see all the good things you’ve done in my
life and throughout the world. In the beautiful name of Jesus Christ I pray,
Amen.
