“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.”1
Living life with Jesus has been the most rewarding experience I have encountered. God has blessed me, and time after time shown me His faithfulness in ways beyond my comprehension. Through my daily relationship with Him, I have come to understand what true love is. He has been a constant friend that always cares for me.
However, there have been several times in my personal life where I start to question, and doubt starts creeping in. I wonder what God is doing and question His plan. I am quite sure I am not the only one who has felt this way. More than likely we can all think of a time where we felt overwhelmed by the dark situation we were facing. Perhaps you are in a situation like this right now. I find it so interesting how I can go from having complete trust in God when things feel stable, to feeling anxiety and doubt the moment things feel unsteady.
This is when I ask myself, “Has God changed?” “Does my current circumstance dictate or limit who God is?” No, my friend. God has not changed. He remains the same, faithful friend in all circumstances. Despite our feelings, we can cling to His promises. Corrie ten Boom said the following quote which is always a great reminder for me. She said, "When a train goes through the tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer."
So true. If we can sit still in our seats when a train goes through a tunnel or when our plane goes through turbulence, and trust that we will arrive safely to our destination, how much more should we trust our Heavenly Father who has promised never to leave or forsake us? He is the Creator of the universe and Almighty God, but at the same time is so relational and desires a personal relationship with each of us. He holds us in the palm of His hand where we can rest. Nothing can ever separate us from Him. So, the next time you go through that dark tunnel, remember that our Engineer is in complete control. We can trust Him unconditionally.
Suggested prayer: Dear God, at times I lose sight of you in the darkness. I allow myself to get overwhelmed and fear and doubt come in. I ask that in those moments you would remind me WHOSE I am. You are my loving Father and you have promised to never leave me. I can trust your plan because you are always good. Help me rest in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
