I will say of the Lord, “He is my
Refuge and my Fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” - Psalm 91:2
Courage is a strong desire to live,
and a readiness to die. - G.K.

Greater
love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. - Jesus1
This
nation has always been defined by a dream. A dream to achieve and live beyond the
fold. Innovation, creativity, and freedom are all hallmarks of this American
Dream. But this dream comes with a cost, and it is not preserved without
self-sacrifice. The men and women who serve our country are not just soldiers,
they are “Defenders of Freedom”; they are “Protectors of our Rights to Pursue
Happiness”. We use words like honor, courage, and bravery to describe our
Veterans. They have taken turns standing guard over the dream that makes
America extraordinary. The freedom to live, love, and worship God in this
country is possible because of our Veterans. This is what makes America so
special. This is what makes our Veterans our Heroes.2
Dave
is a husband and a father who loves his family. He spends every spare moment
with his son and cherishes each moment he has with his wife because Dave is
also a soldier who loves his country and will be deployed very soon. When they
say good-bye, there is no way of knowing if it will be the last time they see
each other or if they will be together again at Christmas. Dave and his family
are like so many others, serving and sacrificing so much.
God,
our Father, knows sacrifice and is near to those families who’ve given so much
for others. He gave His only Son for the freedom of our sins and the salvation
of this world. We accept Jesus’ sacrifice with gratitude. On this Veteran’s
Day, we thank the “Dave’s” of this world who leave their families to fight for
our freedom; and we thank the families who sacrifice their loved ones to the
service of our country.
Suggested
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice. For giving us your Son
to die on that cruel cross. Today we ask a special blessing on those who have
fought for this country and sacrificed their families or their lives for the
freedom of many. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
John 15:13 (NIV).
