“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”1
One thing my husband and I made a habit of ever since our oldest daughter was born, was praying over our children every night before bed. Some days we are able to read devotions together, and we always thank the Lord for our meals, but at night we are able to personalize prayer time with each one of our children. They each lay in their beds and patiently wait their turn. It is so special to pray over things that are on their heart or bless our children in ways that pertain to their season of life. However, one thing that all our prayers have in common is how we thank the Lord for never leaving us, and that because of this we don’t need to be afraid. This is something that we want to instill in our children because at every stage of life we will face things that can cause fear. Whether that be nightmares or seeing shadows in your room at night, or not knowing what the future holds, it is imperative that we know that we are never alone.
Fear has always been something that humanity struggles with. God knew this, which is why he not only provided countless verses in His Word to reassure us, but also gave us His Holy Spirit to be our Comforter. The world around us is a scary place. Every day we hear of people being robbed. Children are being kidnapped. Unborn babies are being killed. Human sex trafficking is happening all around us. We are seeing signs of the end, and I find myself praying “Come, Lord Jesus”. There is a lot of bad that can cause us worry and fear, but our Father is good and is always with us. I have learned from personal experience that the Holy Spirit shows up in different ways. Sometimes His presence is subtle, and other times there is just no denying it! So, until Jesus comes again, let us be strong and courageous because the Lord is with us, and we are never alone.
Suggested prayer: Heavenly Father, my heart breaks to see so much evil and pain in the world. Use me to be your hands and feet to those who need it most. Give me courage to stand for what is right, even if I am standing alone at times. Help me be an example of faith to my children and the younger generation. Thank you for going before us and for never leaving us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
