And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.1
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).2
Last night as I prepared dinner, my daughter walked into the kitchen, sighed and said, “And just like that, Christmas has come and gone.” We prepared for this holiday for months" shopping, decorating, planning "the excitement of the season filled our days. And just like that, it’s all over…or is it?
The world had been preparing for the coming of the Messiah for years, centuries even. When He finally arrived, the whole world rejoiced and celebrated the birth of the Savior. While He was here on Earth, people praised and worshiped Him. Multitudes followed Him to hear His message and just be near Him. The excitement lasted until the day Jesus was to return to Heaven. Then everyone began to feel that sense of dread, it was over, Christmas was over. But it isn’t over!
As Christians, we believe that God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in one. In the beginning God was there, preparing the world for the day he would come down to us in the form of Jesus. God dwelt among His creation and on the day He ascended to Heaven, God the Holy Spirit remained here with us. Jesus was called Immanuel, meaning “God with us”. So you see, God has always been here and as long as we have Immanuel we have Christmas! God sent His Son as a token of His love for all mankind. Those who have chosen to receive His gift are filled with God’s love and the Holy Spirit dwells with them. We have a reason to celebrate every day! We don’t need a tree and decorations to remind us to give to others.
As we begin this New Year, allow the spirit of giving to dwell with you all year long. Give your time, kindness and most of all let God use you to share His Gift, His Son, with everyone. Christmas may be gone, but Immanuel is here. He is the reason for every season and we can celebrate Him all year long!
Suggested Prayer: Dear Father God, thank you for the hope we have in Jesus. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to dwell with us; for never leaving us. Use me to bring that Hope to others in Jesus’ name, Amen.
