Trust in the Lord with
all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit
to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.1
How can we become
successful? Contrary to the common definition of the word, which usually
implies fame, fortune, or power, true success means becoming the person God
wants each of us to be. Hebrews 12:1 offers his perspective on this: Therefore,
since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything
that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with
perseverance the race marked out for us.
Here we see the key to
success. First, it is important to find encouragement in the lives of other
believers who have seen the faithfulness of God and obeyed His directions.
Then, we must get rid of anything that prevents us from obeying God. Finally,
we must persevere, even in difficult or discouraging times. We achieve success
only if we trust Christ for guidance and strength.
The Lord has a wonderful
plan to bless you and give you a life of joy, and part of His plan is for you
to live with purpose and perseverance. His guidance will become clearer as you
read His Word, pray for direction, and seek godly counsel.
Does your definition of
success match the plan God has for you?
Suggested Prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, thank you for defining success in a very different way than
society defines it. Lord, I want to succeed in Your way, fulfilling the purpose
You have for my life. I accept that living a life surrendered to You and
aligning my desires to Your will is the best way to live a successful life.
Lord, let it be done to me according to Your will! I pray in the name of Jesus,
Amen.
