All praise to God, the
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been
born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with
great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritanceâ€"an inheritance that is
kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and
decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you
receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to
see.1
We all want to feel safe
and secure. But whenever we base our sense of security on the things of this
world, we can expect to be disappointed. That is why it is so important to
remember our eternal future.
It is wonderful to
know that believers have an inheritance that cannot be stolen! It was given to
us when we put our hope in Jesus Christ and it will never be taken away from us
because it is reserved and protected for us in heaven. Someday, when we see the
Lord Jesus face to face, we will forever receive and enjoy the fullness of our
inheritance.
But did you know that
every day we live on this earth we have the opportunity to accumulate that
inheritance by investing in the things God values? That is what Christ was
talking about when He said to lay up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20). By
living righteously and obeying God, we are investing in the treasure that
awaits us.
Do you care more about
investments in this life than you do about eternal riches? It is all too easy
to allow daily demands and responsibilities to interfere with the importance of
investing in the Kingdom of God. Take time each day to refocus your mind and
heart, then start accumulating wealth of lasting value.
Suggested Prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, thank you that in Jesus we can feel safe and secure. Thank you
that through Jesus we have an eternal and incorruptible inheritance. Help me to
focus my mind and heart on things that are of lasting value, and that bring you
glory. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
