You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and
parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and
beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my
lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I
will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.1
We like to spend time
with people who enjoy our company, but what if they only do it for convenience?
Then, we would stop enjoying it and, of course, we would not want to be that
kind of "friend". However, to be honest, there are times when our
interactions with God are more transactional than relational. We receive
countless blessings from His hand, but we overlook the rewards of spending time
with Him. Love should be our primary motivation for seeking the Lord.
There are many types of
blessings, but we often think of them in a material sense. Those who followed
Christ did the same.
After feeding the five
thousand, the Lord addressed this materialistic attitude: "I tell you the
truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the
miraculous signs." â€"John 6:26.
Many who followed Christ
had their eyes set on seeing His miracles and receiving material provisions, but
Christ wanted them to see Him as the Bread of Life that would satisfy all their
needs.
The greatest of all the
blessings we receive from God has nothing to do with material wealth or social
position, but with the closeness of his presence. That is why He taught His
disciples..."Seek Me first, and all these things will be added to
you."
Have you looked to the
Savior because of what He gives you or because you love Him? Learn to love Him
and Him alone, and all your longings will be satisfied.
Suggested Prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, help me to long for Your presence above all else, for nothing
compares to the joy of being with You. O God, You are my God and I seek You
intensely. My soul thirsts for You, my whole being longs for You. Your great
love is better than life, so my lips will praise you forever. In the name of
Jesus, Amen.
