Anyone who listens to my
teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid
rock.1
In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus
says that whoever listens and follows His teachings is wise, but whoever hears
His teachings but does not follow them is a fool. To explain it in a more
understandable way, Jesus says that whoever listens and follows His teachings
is like a person who builds their house on solid rock. Although the winds,
rains, and floodwaters beat against the house, it does not fall because it is
built on a firm foundation. Then, He said that whoever hears His teachings but
does not follow them is like a person who builds their house on sand. Unlike
the wise person whose house was able to withstand the storm, the foolish
person’s house collapsed when the storm hit.
We can be one of those two
people. We can either be the wise person who heard and followed His teachings,
or we can be the foolish person who heard but ignored His teachings. When we
face challenges, hardships, trials, and temptations, I hope our foundation is
Christ so that we will be able to stand firm on His Word, and resist any storm
that comes our way.
There is a song called,
“Firm Foundation (He Won’t),” by Cody Carnes that is about Christ being our
firm foundation. In the song, it says, “Christ is my firm foundation, The Rock
on which I stand.” It matches the example that Jesus is using perfectly and it
conveys a great message. We are so blessed to have Jesus in our lives as our
firm foundation so that we can stand against Satan, his evil schemes, and the
weight of this world.
Suggested prayer: God,
thank you for being the firm foundation in my life. Please help me to be able
to withstand the storms that try to tear me down. As long as I have you as my
Rock, I can stand against anything and everything, and I can come out of it
stronger than I was before. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
